Session Style: Little girl (blue)
Picking out your outfits for your session can be overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be! Color choices do matter, as they set the tone for they type of images you are wanting. I prefer the light and airy look, so for me, I lean towards neutrals, light blues, and lights greens. So today, I am going to show you some great light blue based options for little girls!

More than just the color, you need to consider things like texture, pattern, length and flow! My daughter loves to twirl and move, so I wanted something more flowy for our family photos, as well as something longer, so she could twirl without worrying about it lifting too high. I do a lot of sessions on the beach, which can mean WIND! A little extra length can go a long way, especially when we do seated positions. A little texture can go a long way! If everyone else has a flat texture, adding some smocking or rick-rack to your little girls outfit adds more interest and elevation to your images! Little girls typically have the most options for wardrobe, so using their outfit selection to add texture is a great option!

I love these 3 options for their patterns and the addition of texture, and also the white that allows you to incorporate a darker blue while at the same time keeping it light! I did the overall dress option for a family session when my daughter was 18 months. I paired it with a long sleeved white shirt, that had some small flutters on the shoulders, it was SO CUTE! I would recommend, if you do this option with a toddler or baby, try to use a onsie, as the shirt can find its way up over the top edge of the skirt. If you use it for your older daughter and end up doing the shirt route, I would pair it with some spandex/tight shorts underneath to tuck the shirt into so it doesn't ride up.

Please, please, be mindful of the your daughters undergarments! Girls twirl, run, cartwheel, squat, sit, and kneel! So much of being a kid and being able to create authentic sessions and images, involves letting kids be kids, so plan for it! Be mindful of the the underwear they are wearing. Pick the lightest color they have if they are wearing light colored outfit. Then, put some shorts over it. Editing is magic, but we can't always get the unmentionables covered or removed. Thinking about, and planning ahead will let your kids be kids!
